Ontario Nature fall Huronia regional meeting is set for Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 10 am, and will take place at Marchmont Baptist Church, 3839 Town Line, Orillia, (Just off Hwy 12 near Horseshoe Valley Rd). The Orillia Field Naturalists’ are hosting with special assistance from the Couchiching Conservancy (CC).
Our guest speaker David J. Hawke, Stewardship Program Manager, Couchiching Conservancy will provide an in-depth discussion on invasive plants, what the problems are with them, and how can they be tackled. He will discuss methods of control that they implement at Couchiching Conservancy (some successful, a few not so).
We also welcome Tanya Clark, CC, Development Coordinator who will be talking about the “Passport to Nature” program, a series of guided hikes and activities that explore the region and many of the properties that the Conservancy helps to protect.
As a special treat, we also will hear from Aiesha Aggarwal, CC summer intern on her experiences working at the Couchiching Conservancy and being “Bird brained at 23” She will share key experiences that fostered her curiosity and love for the natural world and reflect on the importance of letting nature into our lives.
Our afternoon hike with David and Mary E. Mick will take place at Grant’s Woods.
