DESCRIPTION:Globally, butterflies and dragonflies are in significant peril, with many s
 pecies facing threats that could lead to extinction. Butterfly and dragonfl
 y counts allow us to monitor the impact of climate change, habitat loss and
  pollution on these insects. The Carden Alvar counts were initiated by Bob 
 Bowles in 1998. Today, they are among the oldest continuous counts in Ontar
 io.\nBob Bowles is an award winning writer, artist, photographer and natura
 list. He is the founder and coordinator of the Ontario Master Naturalist Ce
 rtificate program offered at the Orillia campus of Lakehead University. He 
 has conducted biological inventories on behalf of regional conservation ass
 ociations, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Defence. Joi
 n us as he provides a look at insect species at risk based on thirty years 
 of monitoring activity on the Carden Alvar.\n \nNorthwest Barrie United Chu
 rch, 464 Ferndale Drive North, Barrie and start at 7:30pm. Meetings are hel
 d in Westennial Hall at the back of the church. Park in the big lot off of
