Meeting ID: 830 6072 3032 Passcode: 959890 For the upcoming presentation on Feb. 18, I have connected the dots between my experiences in the local community and many of the books I have written that shine the spotlight very brightly on environmental concerns. I will explore in pertinent detail using photos from my albums, the albums of Dr. Kristen Mancuso, Michelle Nickel and my mixed media paintings and illustrations, how my concerns about our habitats for wildlife and humans were translated into some of my children’s picture books for 5 - 9 year olds. If you have never heard of the Ribbon of Life, find how going to a presentation here in Barrie, led me to write a modern fairy tale that takes place in the kingdom of Kempenfelt called “A Wish for Haiden.” Although this book is a fairy tale, like all my fiction narratives, it’s loaded with factual information addressing the ecological health of our environment. I am passionate about the importance of planting as many trees as possible, in as many places as possible, and as often as possible. In my explorations of learning as much as possible about the profoundly important roles trees play in reducing our Earth’s excess load of carbon, I was motivated to write a narrative entitled “The Blue Bottle.” It tells the suspenseful story about a monster who wants to rip out all the trees in the world and turn it into a desert. Also in my tree fact finding journey, I was astounded and greatly inspired by the incredible tree planting achievements of young Felix Finkbeiner and his children’s organization. As well, I will highlight the fantasy narratives and non-fiction books that address my concern about the alarming increase of plastic in our land and water and the unimaginable decrease of our precious pollinators.
